"I grew up in a house full of extremely intelligent and dynamic women so I would have to say my inspiration starts with the power a woman has to captivate an entire room or even the world by the way she dresses and carries herself. I love being a woman and feel dressing beautifully is a way to celebrate yourself and your femininity." - Laura Makla
From an early age Laura was encouraged by her mother, a painter and sculptor, to follow her own personal creative process that began with drawing and painting and quickly led into sewing and costume design.
After receiving an Associate's degree in Fashion Design from The Fashion Institute of Technology Laura worked for high-end contemporary brands such as Miguelina to major retailers such as Macy's before launching her own label. MAKLA incorporates natural and raw textiles designed in collaboration with artist Becky Makla's organic abstract expressionist paintings. The prints are experimental using alcohol inks, liquid watercolor and yupo paper.
MAKLA exudes a young, fresh and sophisticated take on wearable lingerie and resort wear. The clean silhouettes fuse exotic prints in vibrant colors adorned with lace accents. The collection delivers drapey silk tunics, delicate camisoles, ethereal dresses and a modern take on the traditional caftan.
These luminous and versatile designs easily transition from seaside to metropolis. MAKLA's collection is a perfect harmony of effortless allure, style and comfort for the confident and adventurous woman.
